Habitat

They bloom in summer on the forest floor.

Description

The leaves are shiny, ovals that stay dark green year round and have slightly toothed edges. Tiny, white, bell-shaped flowers with a fringed, turned up end hang under the leaves. They later turn to red berries.

Taxonomic Features (Traits) for Identification

  • Flower Type: Flowers regular with 5 petals forming bells that hang beneath the leaves
  • Flower Color: White
  • Leaf Arrangement: Alternate
  • Plant Type: Wildflower (Low and creeping forming dense clusters on mountaintops)
  • Leaf Type: Oval, toothed, dark green, shiny (through the winter)
  • Fruit: Bright red berries
