Habitat

They are found in dry fields and roadsides.

Description

The flowers are tiny and white in a flat-topped lacy bunch called an "umbel.” There is 1 tiny, dark reddish-brown flower in the center. The stem is hairy. The leaves are long, and fern-like and smell like carrots. They bloom June through September. Also called, bird's nest and wild carrot.

  • Flower Type: Tiny flowers in flat clusters on top of plant (2-4 inch umbels)
  • Flower Color: White with one tiny, purple one in center
  • Leaf Arrangement: Alternate
  • Plant Type: Wildflower (tall - 1-3 feet)
  • Leaf Type: Feathery and highly divided
  • Stem: Hairy
