Developing and using models to understand science concepts is part of the Science and Engineering Practices integral to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). “In science, models are used to represent a system under study, to aid in the development of questions and explanations, to generate data that can be used to make predictions, and to communicate ideas to others.”
Materials Provided:
• Two black & white Landform Sheets that can be trimmed, taped together, labeled, and colored to form an 11 x 17” poster.
• List of Landform and Waterway features that should be added to the poster.
• Two color Landform Sheets that can be trimmed and taped together to form an 11 x 17” color poster.
For Optional Activity:
• Four color Landform Sheets that can be trimmed and taped together to form a 14 x 20” color poster.
Materials Needed: scissors, crayons/markers, scotch tape, poster boards* for each student (or team). *Or to save the cost of poster board, print sheets on coverstock or card stock paper.
Procedures:
1) Following your unit on Landforms, students will color, trim to fit, tape together and label an 11 x 17" poster of Landforms and Waterways to display and reinforce their understanding of these geographical features.
2) Students will trim and tape together a full color 11 x 17" poster of Landforms and Waterways (2 pieces).
Optional Activity:
3) Students will trim and tape together a full color 14 x 20" poster of Landforms and Waterways (4 pieces).
When you research information you must cite the reference. Citing for websites is different from citing from books, magazines and periodicals. The style of citing shown here is from the MLA Style Citations (Modern Language Association).
When citing a WEBSITE the general format is as follows.
Author Last Name, First Name(s). "Title: Subtitle of Part of Web Page, if appropriate." Title: Subtitle: Section of Page if appropriate. Sponsoring/Publishing Agency, If Given. Additional significant descriptive information. Date of Electronic Publication or other Date, such as Last Updated. Day Month Year of access < URL >.
