Joe-Pye Weed (Spotted)

Habitat

Found in meadows and thickets.

Description

Up to 10' tall - blooms summer to fall. Pinkish-purple flower cluster on top of the plant. Stem is pink with purple spotting. Leaves more rounded than Eastern Joe-Pye Weed with three veins.

Taxonomic Features (Traits) for Identification

  • Flower Type:  Flowers too small to be seen clearly in fuzzy clusters (corymb) on the top of the plant
  • Flower Color: Purple
  • Leaf Arrangement: Whorled
  • Plant Type: Wildflower (Tall - 3-10 feet) with purple or purple spotted stem
  • Leaf Type: Elliptical and toothed
