Range

They are found in Africa, south of the Sahara desert.

Habitat

They live in the forests, rocky hillsides and river valley forests.

Body Traits

They are a very large eagle, reaching 3.5 feet tall. They have a long, wide tail and short legs with powerful claws (talons). They are dark brown on top and lighter underneath with stripes (bars). They have rounded wings and a feather head crest.

Habits

They soar over the forests hunting for monkeys.

Diet

They eat monkeys and small mammals, snakes and lizards.

Reproduction

They build a large nest of sticks high up in a tree. The female lays 1 - 2 eggs that they both warm (incubate) for 7 weeks.
