Dragonfly (Swift Long-winged Skimmer)

Range

They are found in most of the U.S. (they are not found in the Rocky Mountains or Black Hills) and just into southern Canada and south into Mexico.

Habitat

They live by large ponds and wide streams.

Body Traits

They have large, clear wings that get brownish out by the tips and are strong fliers. The buzzing sound of their flight can be heard as they go by. They have a blue body and are between 1 - 2 inches long.

Habits

When they rest on plants or rocks, they sit with their wings spread.

Diet

They eat small flying insects.

Females lay their eggs on plants stems near the water line.
