The biggest animal I ever worked on was a 12,000 pound male Asian elephant. We were doing an immobilization (putting him to sleep) for tusk cutting. We trim their tusks because when a male elephant is in musth, breeding time for males, they are very aggressive. It is tricky to put an elephant to sleep because they are so big and so heavy that when they lie down, they have trouble breathing. So we move quickly while the elephant is out and use a lot of people to get everything done fast and get him up and moving again.
