Allomyrrhina dichotoma

Range

They are found in Japan and Asia.

Habitat

They live in leafy forests in the tropical and subtropical mountains.

Body Traits

Males can be up to 4" long and have two large horns. Females are plain brown beetles. They are scarab beetles.

Habits

The horns are used by the males to compete for mates.

Diet

Grubs (larvae) eat rotten wood. Adults eat tree sap, rotten fruits and sometimes leafstalks and bark.

Reproduction

Females lay eggs in rotten wood and young, called grubs, (larvae) hatch out in about 3 weeks and feed on wood.
